The Pan Flute by Josh Nadison and Carrigan Cullinan

The Pan Flute, also known as the panpipes or syrinx, consists of multiple pipes increasing in length. The pipes of the pan flute are typically made from bamboo, giant cane, or local reeds. Sound is produced by the vibration of an airstream blowing across an open hole. The Pan Flute is represented in many different cultures, such as Andean, Romanian, Greek, Chinese, and South American.

The Pan Flute originated from Greek mythology. According to Greek Legend, the Nymph Syrinx was turned into reeds to protect her chastity from the god Pan. When God Pan blew over the reeds in frustration, the pan flute was created. The Pan Flute was considered a shepherd’s instrument in Ancient Greece, and Pan was the god of shepherds.

We originally tried to build our Pan Flute out of bamboo and string, but we could not get the technique to tie all the bamboo in order and stay together. So we decided to use hot glue as an alternative. This worked well, and our Pan Flute came out looking great.
